The role of sentinel lymph node biopsy in the treatment of women with early vulval cancer: A summary of the evidence Early-stage cancer of the vulva

چکیده
The International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) categorises cancer of the vulva into stages, with early-stage (1A or 1B) defined as being confined to the vulva or perineum, with stromal invasion, and negative inguino-femoral lymph nodes.1 In Australia, vulval cancer represents 6.2 % of all gynaecological cancers, with 83% cases of vulval cancer having squamous cell histology.2 In 2008, vulval cancer was the fourth most commonly diagnosed gynaecological cancer with 282 new cases in Australia.2 Between 2006 and 2010, five-year relative survival was 71.3% for vulval cancer in Australia.2

Sentinel lymph node in cervical cancer
Background: Cervical cancer is the second most common type of cancer among women. Effective screening programs can help cancer detection in early phases and reduce death. Metastasis to lymph nodes is one of the most prognostic factors in patients who underwent surgery. Also, a positive result from pathology report alert oncologist as a cause of death. Sentinel lymph node biopsy has been widely ...
متن کاملThe need for skin pen marking for sentinel lymph node biopsy: A comparative study
Introduction: There is a consensus in the literature that sentinel lymph node biopsy is the standard procedure for axillary staging in early stage (I and II) breast cancer patients. Usually during lymphoscintigraphy, the location of the sentinel lymph node is marked on the skin by an indelible ink. In this study we evaluated this issue in our patients. Methods: 40 ...
متن کاملSentinel node mapping in vulvar cancers: report of two cases and literature review
Vulvar cancer is a rare gynecological malignancy with mainly lymphatic spread. Sentinel node mapping plays an important role in the management of this gynecological malignancy. In the current study, we reported our experience in sentinel node mapping of vulvar cancer and review the literature accordingly. Since the introduction of sentinel node mapping to the surgical oncology community of our ...
متن کاملSentinel Node Mapping in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Using an Intraoperative Radiotracer Technique
Objective(s): Lymph node metastases are the most significant prognostic factor in localized non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Identification of the first nodal drainage site (sentinel node) may improve detection of metastatic nodes. Extended surgeries, such as lobectomy or pneumonectomy with lymph node dissection, are among the therapeutic options of higher acceptab...

Objective(s): This study sought to determine the diagnostic yield of SPECT/CT in localizing axillary sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) in early breast cancer patients where planar scintigraphy (PS) was equivocal or negative. Methods: Prospective analysis of early stage breast cancer patients with nonpalpable axillary nodes undergoing SLN localization prior to nodal sampling for axillary staging. PS fi...
